What a Fakuma 2023!
The trade fair organizer had announced a celebration for plastic – and it truly was! The 28th Fakuma, international trade fair for plastic processing, delivered on what exhibitors and organizers had promised: lots of new products! And above all, a lot of good outlooks for the future in terms of the degradability and recyclability of plastics. The main themes of Fakuma 2023 were efficiency, flexibility, the digitalization of machines and systems, and the circular economy for plastics. Traditionally, the large injection molding machines were fascinating to look at and genuine crowd-pullers. Among the innovations were systems with fully electric drives, making the machines flexible and powerful. Many sustainable solution ideas for packaging, recycling compounds, and metal-replacement solutions were also showcased. Overall, the new technologies follow current trends. The goal is resource conservation and net-zero emissions. Many industries are working towards this step by step. The use of circular raw materials instead of fossil raw materials has already become standard. The market for the use of bio-based raw materials is growing. Something significant has started, which this year’s Fakuma has significantly supported: manufacturers are thinking of products holistically: Design for Recycling! End of the throwaway mentality! Because plastic is a valuable material! Fakuma 2023, with the motto “Digital meets Circular Economy” – it was five days of celebration for plastic, including daily fireworks. One thousand six hundred thirty-six exhibitors, forty-four percent of them from abroad, were delighted with the packed halls and corridors in Friedrichshafen – the response was enormous! Now, the industry is rolling up its sleeves to tackle the challenges of the coming months. And they look forward to seeing many further developments at the 29th Fakuma from October 15 to 19, 2024!
